Oral sedation, also called oral conscious sedation, is a form of sedation that we administer in a liquid or pill. The effects of oral sedation range from mild to moderate, depending on the dosage you receive. Under oral sedation, you will be drowsy, calm, and deeply relaxed. Our team uses oral sedation combined with a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area and help you feel completely calm and at ease throughout your procedure.
Patients don’t typically fall asleep under oral sedation. If you do fall asleep, our team can easily awaken you after your procedure. Some patients experience grogginess due to oral sedation, but the effects are generally relatively mild and pass within 1-2 hours. Be sure that someone can drive you home following your appointment until the effects of sedation completely wear off.
